 No not at 34. But it depends on what happenend. Like in the book the "boy" doesn't have a job and does nothing. he's a bum. But if its an emergenacy then yes. But not every month or week. You should be able to provide for your family no matter what. Unless an emergency happens. But he shouldn't be asking for money.
